I am writing to tell you about our wonderful trip to Tajikistan,Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan in May and June. Our excellent travel agent was Zulya Rajabova at Silk Road Travel Tours www.silkroadtreasuretours.com
She was so patient, kind, knowledgeable, and a great listener to our desires. We believe our trip was so enjoyable because of her skillfulplanning. Our guides were excellent, especially those in Uzbekistan, her home country. The Stans are beautiful, fascinating, and safe. The people couldn't be friendlier. So many wanted to have their picture
taken with us which made us feel so welcome. I read about how Turkmenistan is abusing human rights but you sure would not know it by visiting Ashgabad, one of the most beautiful cities in the worldwith its white marble buildings shining in the sun and moon light. The monuments there are beyond spectacular. The people pay no taxes,
get vouchers for free gas, and can get a 30 year mortgage with no interest because the country is so oil rich. We felt perfectly comfortable there. I must add these are very clean countries too. We always ate in beautiful restaurants and enjoyed our meals.
Tajikistan is poor but very interesting. As we walked in Old Town,we met four Muslim men coming from prayers at the Mosque. They stopped to talk and before we parted, one seventy year old invited us to come home with him for lunch. That is so typical of what we experienced in the Stans. By the way, we loved the markets in the Stans.
Uzbekistan was so culturally and historically rich. Khiva, Samarkand, and Bukhara must be seen. They are gorgeous in color. Every inch of the buildings are covered with mosaic tiles, and the feeling of antiquity you feel there is extraordinary.
Kyrgyzstan's scenery is one of the best in the world. I can see in my mind's eye the miles of yellow and purple flowers in the fields with Issyk-Kul Lake and snow covered mountains in the background.
Also memorable is when we stood at the top of the hill next to severalyurts and looked down at the green grass, babbling brook, and horses with, again, the snow-caped mountains in the background.
These images will be with us forever. When I say, "The Stans," people say, "Where's that?" We're here to tell them, "They're some of the most wonderful places in the world to see. Please go and experience their beauty, warmth, lovely people, medieval history, and architecture." As world travelers, we highly recommend The Central Asia Stan Tours with Silk Road Treasure Tours.
