Itinerary
Day 1: Baku
Arrival in Baku. Our walking tour of Baku includes the medieval walled city "Icheri Sheher" with its narrow alleyways, historic caravanserais, mosques and Palace of the Shirvan shahs. Visit the 12th century Maiden Tower, originally part of the city's walls, the imposing mansions of the last century's oil barons, and Martyr's Alley with its superb views over the Bay of Baku. Lunch. A trip to the surrounding Absheron Peninsula, visiting the Zoroastrian Fire Temple of Ateshga and Yanar Dag - Burning Mountain, with its eternal natural gas fires. Dinner at Karvansaray restaurant, an historical setting with a traditional music show. Transfer to Hotel.
Day 2: Baku – Nakhchivan
Breakfast. Transfer to Airport. Travel to the isolated autonomous enclave of Nakhchivan, wedged between Armenia and Iran. Known as the land of Noah, it shares no land border with Azerbaijan and has access is only by air. Transfer to the 4* Tabriz Hotel. Sightseeing in Nakhchivan city to Momina Khatun Monument (XII c.), Yusif Ibn Kuseyir Tomb, the Carpet Museum housed in the home of a former Khan with the largest collection of traditional carpets in the world. Lunch. Travel to Garabaghlar village of Sharur region, and visit the Salt Mine Hospital, one of the most unique health spas in the world.
Day 3: Nakhchivan – Baku
Breakfast. Drive to Daridagh thermal spring in Julfa region. Lunch. Visit to Asabu Kahf caves, a popular pilgrimage site and location for the legend of the Seven Sleepers (and possibly a dog!) of Ephesus. Travel back to Nakhchivan city. Dinner. Transfer to airport for return flight to Baku. Arrive in Baku at approx. 10pm. Transfer to Hotel.
Day 4: Baku-Sheki
Breakfast. Depart for the Caucasus Mountains in the northwest of Azerbaijan where the dry landscape around Baku gives way to densely forested mountain. Visit the town of Shemakha, and the Asabu Kahf cave. Lunch in a local café. Drive to Sheki. Check in at Sheki Saray Hotel. Drive into the countryside to the village of Kish. Its cobblestone streets belie its former importance as a political center and the heart of the ancient Christian Albans. The oldest church site in the Caucasus dates from the first century and is now serves as a museum. Enjoy exploring the surrounding Caucasus foothills. Dinner at Chalabikhan Restaurant. Transfer to Hotel.
Day 5: Sheki – Kish –Baku
Breakfast. Visit the Royal Summer Palace of the Sheki Khans with its magnificent frescoes and traditional stained glass as well as the Sheki Museum and Fortress. Drive to Baku. Lunch on the road. Arrive in Baku. Dinner at Bah-Bah Club. Check in at Diplomat Hotel.
Day 6: Baku – Guba – Baku
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Guba, the northern part of Azerbaijan on the border with Russia. Near the Greater Caucasus, its famous for apples, green landscapes and carpet weaving and home to the largest Jewish settlement in Azarbaijan, the Krasnaya Slobada. Dinner in Baku.
Day 7: Baku
Departure.
