Tajikistan trekking tour

The Fann mountains are a unique mountain region lying between Zerafshan and Hissar ranges of Pamir-Alay. We shall begin our Tajikistan tour by visiting the ancient Tajik settlement Penjikent. Explore the ancient wonders of Tajikistan and admire the massive Fann Mountains.

Day 01. Dushanbe-Khodjand.

Early arrival in Dushanbe. Brief exploration around the ancient capital city. Flight to Khodjand, ancient Silk Road City. Accommodation.

Welcome dinner.

Day 02. Khodjand

Sightseeing tour: Visit Temurmalik fortress, The museum of Archeology and History and ancient Silk Road Bazaar.

Day 03. Khodjand-Penjikent
Sightseeing drive to Penjikent. Arrival in Pendjikent. Discover the ruins of this ancient Sogdian city, one of the most important cultural and economic centers of its time. Visit Rudakiy Museum, Mazore Sharif and the Tajikistan Bazaar. Accommodation at Elena Hotel. Dinner.

Day 04.  Fann Mountains. Chukurak Lakes
Start trekking. After breakfast, transfer to the village Guytan (90 km/3 hrs). Arrival at the village. Begin trek and go to Guitan pass, then walk via a mountain village to view how people live. Stop for a short time to meet with locals, and then continue trekking toward the Chukural lake through little forests. From the Pass, you will have a beautiful panoramic view. Another trail leads you to the Chukurak Lakes through juniper groves and magnificant landscapes. Camp at the lakeshore. Dinner and night in the tent.

Day 05  Kulikalon Lakes
Walk up to Kulikalon lakes through juniper forests and admire the fascinating panorama of the unique Kulikalonskaya wall with its clouded peaks more than 4500m high (Adamtash, Mariya, Rudaki, and Mirali peaks). See the crystal-clear emerald-blue water of the Kulikalonskie lakes (14 in total), with plenty of fish. Camp on the banks of the Bibidjanat or Dushokha lakes, (2900m). (10 kms; 5 hrs; +700m).

Day 06. Alauddin lakes.
Ascent to the Alautdin pass (3860m), from where an impressive view of the Chapdara peak (5197 m) and the valley of Chapdara river opens up. Descent toward the Alautdin lakes. Camp on the bank of one of the lakes (2900m). (6 km / 6hrs / +900; - 950m). Farther down, you can see the Alautdin lake, with its amazing color changing from light-blue to bright ultramarine.

Day 07.  Mutnoje lake
Day-trip to the Mutnoje lake (8 km, 4-5 hrs, + 800m). During the day, we will encounter attractive panoramas of the Kaznok, Zamok, Energiya, and Chimtarga peaks. Severe alpine conditions, hanging glaciers, and steep moraine swells exist in this region. On the way, you can see rare birches and a small lake (named “Piala lake," for its round shape) amidst gigantic sheets of glacier and polished rocks. High in the sky eagles will be soaring around you.

Day 08 Kulikalon Lakes 
Ascent to Laudan pass (3630m), and then descent to Kulikalon Lakes. (12km; +750m;4,5hrs; -850m;2hrs). The descent starts after moving down from the Alautdin lakes to the foot of the old Allo lake obstruction. From Laudan pass (3600m), we can see almost the entire view of the Kulikalon lakes, and the western part of Kulikalon wall. Descent from the pass runs toward the lakes along the wide path. Camp on the bank of the Big Kulikalon lake (2800m). All day long, unforgettable panoramas of beautiful mountains: the valley of the Pasrud river, the eastern slopes of the Chapdara peak, the far tops of the Yagnob river, the famous Kulikalon wall, and the highest range of the Chimtarga and Sarytash (4650m) Peaks.

Day 09. Artuch river
Trekking from Kulikalon to Artuch village. This day will be easy; we descend towards the village. In 3 hours, downward movement from the Lakes brings the group to the gorge of the Artuch river and to the Artuch village. Arrival in the village and home-stay (1500 m). (10 km, +400 m, 3 hrs, -1000 m, 3 hts). While descending, it is possible to stop and meet local herders, who have yogurt, bread, and tea.

Day 10 Fann Mountains –Dushanbe
Sightseeing day drive to Dushanbe through Zerafshan Valley, Varzob Gorge.  Arrival in Dushanbe. Accommodation.

Day 11. Dushanbe (The capital of Tajikistan).
Explore Dushanbe, the capital of the Tajik Republic. Visit Hissar fortress and the Medresseh.
Afternoon city tour includes Museum of National Antiquities. Enjoy local bazaar and meet Tajik people and handicraftsmen.

Day 12. Dushanbe. Departure
